Common Lawn Pests

A pest is defined as anything growing or living where it is not wanted. For example, turf grass growing in a flower bed is a weed (pest). Or, if someone likes the look of clover in their yard, it is not a weed (pest). Anything that removes a pest is a pesticide. Pesticides that kill insects are insecticides. Pesticides that kill weeds are herbicides.

To control a pest safely we want a product that will minimize or eliminate the pest without hurting us, our children or pets. The most common pests in yards are listed below with links for information and control. Remember: a thick, healthy, dense stand of turfgrass will absorb and recover from a nominal level of virtually any pest presence, eliminating the need for pesticides of any kind! We also encourage customers to review and practice Integrated Pest Management.
