What Kind of Fertilizer Does
Child's Play Use?
We use a combination of organic based based fertilizer and our own liquid formulation. All products that do not contain synthetic pre or post-emergent controls are completely safe for use around kids and pets. Synthetic applications require watering and that people / pets stay off the lawn for 24 hours.
The rise in organic based lawn care has created a competitive environment among lawn care operators. We're happy to provide more information about the manufacturer, labels, formulations, etc. to those who request a quote.

Mechanical/Corrective Techniques - Fundamental fixes for long term results!
Soil Analysis - Child’s Play has partnered with a certified soil testing lab to provide a comprehensive analysis of your lawn’s soil. The analyses are in color and easy to read. They provide information about the levels of vital nutrients and trace minerals based on industry standards. The results tell us what needs to be added, if anything, to balance the soil and provide the ideal growing environment for your grass. Other tests are available to meet your specific needs. More Information...
- Soil Correction - Lime, gypsum, sulfur and phosphorous are used to correct problems identified by the soil analysis. A neutral pH is important for turf grass’ ability to extract and utilize important minerals and nutrients from the soil. Symptoms of improper pH are a sickly yellow or washed out green color, moss growth or very thin grass stand under trees.
- Core Aeration - Core Aerating your lawn will loosen compacted soil, and will allow air, nutrients and moisture down to the roots, keeping turf thick and healthy. Ideal service for preparing the soil for over seeding. More Information...
- Overseed - Let Child’s Play thicken up your lawn by over seeding, timed perfectly with your treatment program, using high quality, disease resistant premium grass seed. More Information...
- Power Rake - Power raking (dethatching) will mechanically remove thatch that has built up in your lawn. Thatch is a habitat for disease and insects. Removing it allows air to get to the soil, lifts and straightens the blades, and helps relieve a "choked" lawn. More Information...
- Organic Top Dressing - Top dressing is great for improving soil conditions, but traditionally had to be done with tons of material, shovels, rakes and LOTS of labor. Now we have pelletized humus! It provides all the benefits of top dressing and is spreadable like fertilizer. Combine an aeration, overseed and top dressing for a dramatic face lift!. Top dressing is integral to conditioning clay/sandy soils (pdf document).
- Spot Turf Repair - Summer and winter are cruel to your lawn. Over the seasons we’ve seen various situations where small areas need to be repaired, but full aeration and overseeding is too expensive. With our new spot repair offering, we will rake out the dead area, spread compost, reseed and fertilize. Just add water!
Pest/Disease Control - Fix and prevent problems before they start!
Grub Control - Grubs and many other larvae are naturally controlled by parasitic nematodes. Nematodes are a living micro-organism that occur naturally in the soil. Like little heat-seeking missiles, they find and kill grubs all season long. They are completely safe! Conventional grub control is available, too. More Information...
- Fungus Control - Neem oil naturally kills fungi that cause diseases, and pyrethrin controls insects; a 3 step program. Conventional grub control is available, too. More Information...
- Mole Repellent - Garlic and castor oil disrupt a mole's ability to smell its preferred food - earthworms; a 3 step program. More Information...
- Spot Weed Control - At a customer's request, we will spot treat, on a limited basis, perennial weeds like clover and ground ivy. More Information...
